the octopus vs. the gorilla

say they got in a fight. who’d win? let’s forget for a moment that they live in different environments and one can’t walk and the other would probably drown after too long as well as the fact that this will probably never happen.
as far as the ability to have the most consecutive hits, i’d go with the octopus. he’s got more appendages to use. some to stick, some to move, others to block all at the same time. using all that energy though, would probably get kinda tiring i would think. he’d have too many things going on to really focus.
the gorilla though, he may have less appendages, but that can be a benefit. he’s got less going on, so he can get more power out of his swing. yeah, he still has to move around a bit to dodge all of those tentacles, but when he strikes, it’s gonna pack a punch (literally).
i’m learning that effectiveness in ministry isn’t about doing so many things, but that if you find what you’re good at and focus on it, you’ll have more of an impact and you may even find yourself to not get tired out so quickly. this year, i’m diving more into my niche. i’ve found out what i am seemingly more passionate about and i’m able to focus in on it. i’ve not gotten so tired out. i never got to any sort of breaking point, but i can now see the difference.
grant it, there are times in our life where we probably have to, and in the future will probably have to, do more things at one time for the sake of the Kingdom, and that’s okay. but you can bet your bottom that i’ll be looking around at the people around me so they too can join in the good work for the sake of growing into their strengths and their passions and their gifts.
jim collins describes it as putting the right people in the right seats on the bus. i like that analogy too. it makes a little more sense than an octopus and a gorilla in an octagon whether its under or above water. maybe that could be the next king kong movie.
